Autumn Leaving

Been awhile. Don’t care.

I used to blog a lot on livejournal, but I find more and more that I prefer Twitter and Facebook. I can keep up with my friends in bite-size tweets and status updates, rather than trying to find an hour or two to read entire blog posts. Yet, every now and then, I want to say more than 140 characters will allow.

Today, for example. Like a lot of his fans, I follow Neil Gaiman on Twitter (hey, it’s nice to see the famous folks being normal, everyday people). He tends to post links to his blog when he updates it, and today’s was a lovely set of pics that he called One Perfect Autumn Day With Editorial Pie. It’s lovely; you should see it if you haven’t already.

And it kinda hit me all at once and in a sort of sad way that I haven’t had a perfect autumn day in years. My favorite season, and I never have time to enjoy it. I make excuses about my back hurting too much lately, but it’s not like there aren’t park benches just about everywhere in every public place. I make excuses about never having time, but I get two days off every week, just like most folks do. And I spend those two days off sitting in front of a computer. I live right across the street from a park.

I’m beginning to think that maybe, just maybe, I’m missing out on a lot of this “life” thing.

I have an appointment to see my doctor on one of my days off next week. I think I’ll see if I can talk the husband into taking the day off work and coming along. And afterwards, we can go to the zoo, or the park, or someplace else that’s nice and has trees.
